Artist: Duck Sauce
Album: aNYway- Single
Year: 2009
I'm going to be honest. This may be the year's best video. Duck Sauce, a collaboration between DJ A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, puts on quite a show with this number, "aNYway." The song alone is a fresh, exciting blend of soul, funk and dance pop, very reminiscent of the 1970s R&B scene. And then there's the video. As infectious as the track is on its own, it just gets even more so after watching the entertaining, pseudo-nostalgic visual representation.
"aNYway" is set as a mock '70s variety show-type program, with an overly goofy and corny host. Neither A-Trak nor Van Helden appear in it either, yet you don't mind once you see the performers that they do trot out for you. In keeping with the aforementioned aesthetic of the song, a four-piece act that resembles The O'Jays or maybe The Spinners, takes the stage with moves the likes of which we haven't seen since The Jackson 5. By the end, you almost wish that these were the guys who recorded the song in the first place. With their EP currently delayed, we can only hope there's more of the same coming up for Duck Sauce.
