Matt's Track of the Week: "Burnin' For You"

Song: Burnin' For You
Artist: Blue Oyster Cult
Album: Fire of Unknown Origin
Year: 1981

Lincoln Vehicles has made a habit recently of using revamped oldies in their commercials. They started with a Shiny Toy Guns cover of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming Home)" and a Cat Power cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity". Now, in heavy rotation is the new Lincoln MKS Cleaner. Faster. Smarter commercial, which features yet another STG cover, this time of Blue Oyster Cult's "Burnin' For You". After seeing the commercial about a thousand times, I grew nostalgic for the original, and thought others might feel the same.

Blue Oyster Cult was one of the first band's from Long Island to achieve moderate mainstream success, and although they were from a completely different scene than what the area is known for today, they probably deserve some credit for getting people looking. "Burnin' For You" screams 80s louder than a dramatic drive down a desolate highway in a Delorean at night, and its soaring guitars, group vocal melodies, and catchy hook are a perfect soundtrack for doing just that. Check it out below.
