Lots of tributes and compilations coming out this year-- or at least that's what it seems like. The latest across the newswire? Ciao My Shining Star, is a tribute to the music of former Miracle Legion frontman Mark Mulcahy. Though Mulcahy is still alive, his wife, tragically, is not, and therefore, the album is serving partially as a benefit as well. A lot of big-time are in on it, most notably Dinosaur Jr., The National and Ben Kweller, but today, we're here for the biggest name of them all, Thom Yorke. The Radiohead bossman covers "All For the Best" in the opener, and sets a great mood with his electronic version reminiscent of Hail to the Thief. For those interested in hearing it, for the sake of Yorke or Mulcahy, you can head over to Stereogum. Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy is out September 29th via Shout! Factory.
Animal Noises is a blog about music, both old and new, and how it stands up in the current music scene. The staff-- John, the editor, with contributions from Matt-- uses their various music backgrounds to intelligently discuss artists and albums, focusing on the good, while not avoiding the bad. We focus on sub-genres of rock, electronic music and hip hop, but don't be surprised to see the occasional wildcard too.
