After hearing the sad news that the Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch has cancer, the last thing anyone wanted to think about was the upcoming album (which has been pushed back for a later release). Still, I won't complain for getting a listen to some of the new material. "Too Many Rappers," which features Nas, is already one of my favorite hip-hop tracks of the year. At this point, the 'Boys are some of the genre's most-seasoned veterans, yet they refuse to just rest on their impressive body of work. The song is new, fresh and a positive note amidst trying times for the group. Our thoughts go out to Adam and the guys. We're hoping you make a speedy recovery. If you'd like to listen to "Too Many Rappers," check it out over at Stereogum. The Beastie Boys' latest, Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1, will be out sometime later this year.
Animal Noises is a blog about music, both old and new, and how it stands up in the current music scene. The staff-- John, the editor, with contributions from Matt-- uses their various music backgrounds to intelligently discuss artists and albums, focusing on the good, while not avoiding the bad. We focus on sub-genres of rock, electronic music and hip hop, but don't be surprised to see the occasional wildcard too.
